Few things about Engineers that everyone should know. . .

Who engineers are? What are the importance of them? How would have been the world without them? Are they Engineers who made this world upto what it is today?

Well! Most of the answers are affirmative .

And yes, the life is possible without Engineers. But that would be a hell , aint it?

Today's world is totally dependent upon the things that can only be made/managed by Engineers. Lets take a common man for example. He wakes up and needs his sleeper, or he could search for his spects, or have a look at his mobile phone, but most importantly, he will look at his watch. What you observe?

we observe that we start using the engineered devices from the very first moment of our day. And keep on using them every minute.

An engineer is the one who creates the world and he is also one who can destroy it. So one thing is very clear that without engineers its not possible to "Live with Ease".
And one very basic thing that everyone should know is that "there is an engineer in everyone". Yes, everyone is engineer. If you can fix any thing then you are also and Engineer. ;) .

There have always been Engineers since humans started to make life easier, since they started to take the Shortcuts, Since they come to know the importance of time and since they realized that they are smarter than other living beings(i.e. they have brain). When human started to make use of their brain, there was an evolution of engineers.

Lets go back to very initial stage of humans when they developed themselves as much as they could realize their abilities. Then human must have known their basic need was only food. They found food for them and move ahead when the food of the place seems to be over.

 They ate fruits, vegetables and used to hunt. Sometimes they got food very easily, but not always. When they realized that they can't get food very easily always then they might have started to hunt with tools. They started to use the man-made Weapons using which they could hunt better. This way was much better than hunting with hands and throwing stones. The use of sharp edge bamboos , sharpened stones made life bit easier. They focused on making better weapons that could make them climb up and from there they could see the target enemies or food from a distance. Humans kept making the tools for different purposes and after many years they realized that there should be people who solely focus on providing the facilities like- weapons for hunting and fighting, houses to live and other facilities for them. These people were called engineers and this was the evolution of engineering.

They could not walk barefoot always. So to protect their feet they made footwears. They made houses to live a long time to a place as soon as they wanted. They made vessels for storing water. They kept on realizing their needs and they engineered for them.

After thousands of years the engineers were subdivided onto catagories according to work. They extracted elements like Iron,copper,gold from earth. They were known as metallurgical engineers.

Build Bridges, Structures, workplaces, colonies etc and they were called as civil and architectural engineers.When they realized to make work easier they started to build machines. These were mechanical engineers.

Engineering was started with civil engineers, but do you know how they got the name as Engineers ?
It was around the year 1300 when people who operated on engines were called engine'er or engineers. Basically the Constructors of Military engines were known as Engineers.

Today the whole scenerio of this world is changed. Humans have now reached to moon and planning to reach other planets too. With respect to communication, we are connected to every corner of world  no matter how distant they are.

Though it was civil Engineering from which the engineering was started. But in the era of industralization there were other engineering branches were evolved. They were- electrical, mechanical,communication,aerospace, material science etc. And in this Information revolution there are many engineering fields like computers, microelectronics, telecommunications, nano science, space engineering etc.
Modern machines are so powerful and efficient that we can travel much faster than ever.

Let us again see upto how much extent we are dependent upon Engineers(or the things made by them). Here are the engineering fields that values for us-

Electrical - Electricity is very important to everyone, at every house, and every moment. Powercut of a single minute can affect the transaction of millions.We are able to enlight our homes day and night, use electronic gadgets etc. For this we should thank to electrical engineers who make it possible to bring electricity to us by producing it from water, coal, wind, pressure, nuclear, sun and many more sources.

Chemical- whether its LPG gas for cooking, soap detergents for washing bathing, the inks for writing, cosmetic items to use they are chemical engineers who separate and compress gasses, prepare chemical compounds and add smelling esters for use. We are surrounded by a lot of chemicals and we use them everyday.

Civil- without them the whole structure of world would have been different. For making houses, bridges, mega structures, tunnels civil engineers play an important role in development. Even with the name engineer the first image come in mind is of a civil engineer.

Electronics- without them we could have been lost in the complex circuits. Solving the very complex cirtuits by making use of microchips, transistors, diodes, microprocessors. From television, radio to all the small electronic items are made by electronic engineers. They made the electricity to be used for different purposes easily.

Communication- we are able to talk anywhere in world and watch the live activity. Communication engineers made it possible. And now Mobile phones, tv, radio, internet are very important part of our life.

Software- how a machine or a hardware work or behave in real life is programmed earlier. This is what a software engineering is. Every electronic Gadget work because of the software integrated in it. Our home's washing machine, refrigerator, tv, cellphones, computers all works on the software integrated in them. All the banks, stock markets, online shops and services are now online and we are fond of it. This all the online communication works because of the software services provided online (cloud services).


Material Science- clothing, footwear, jeweleries and all the materials   used to build something for the public use(plastic, steel, paints etc) is processed by the material science engineers.

Paper engineers- wood pulp and paper engineering is responsible for providing paper on which the history of thousands of years have been written and we still use papers unless the Electronic notebooks dominate over the physical papers.

agriculture- Today the technology is very advanced that an unknown specie can be made using two different specie. That is Genetic science. Fortunately this is not legal to use it on animals otherwise we could get in risk. This has impressive results in agriculture where basically plant can get additional features as other plants.







These are some basic engineering and there are many other fields like Aerospace, Automotive, Biomedical, Electrochemical, Environmental, Geological, Production, water resource etc.

Engineering has a lot to do with medical field. When you approach a doctor he mostly check you with instruments like his Stethoscope, or you blood pressure with a sphygmomanometer. These days a lot of healthcare machines like X-ray, CT scanner, ultrasound etc available. Even in operations, live electronic operational instruments are used that are prepared by engineers. Most importantly the medicines, which are nothing but the physical or chemical compositions of purified medicines. So in medical fields also the contribution of Chemical, Biomedical, Mechanical, Software, and other engineers is very significant.

any practical implementation of idea or a scientific idea is Engineering.

              I have mentioned earlier that engineering was started when human realized the value of time. Now to save time we have a lot of traveling machines. In communication field also we have single click message passing services. To send a message to someone we have social networking, message services, if we want to talk someone distant, we have voice talk services, if want to watch someone then video calling is there, but if you want to shake hand to someone far away then you have to travel and meet him. But we have now faster planes that are much faster and can save most of your time.

             I have also mentioned earlier that engineering was started when Human realized that they are smarter and intelligent than other animals and they realized their abilities. Now we have developed super computers that are much faster than human brains. Software engineers also developed the systems that are artificially very intelligent and can take their own decisions. Software engineers are also developing more intelligent software(smart like brains) using the concept of neural networks. This is advanced computer science engineering, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.

Engineers not only do the creation but also work for Recreation and Destruction. Once we use anything then we through it away. To clean earth and utilize the resources the material is reused or we say the material is Re-engineered.

At present world we have more than a million engineers working in more than fifty engineering fields to serve for people, to help organizations, to implement the ideas into the practical. Engineering is the backbone for human survival. Engineers have always existed and their need shall never vanish.
